Anna Atkins’ cyanotypes of British algae
Anna Atkins was a remarkable woman, one of a select group of pioneering British photographers in the early 19th century. Her passion was collecting and recording algae and seaweeds, making images of them by laying them on specially prepared photographic paper and exposing them to strong light to make perfect detailed silhouettes of each one – blueprints.
