Description
Tapestry showing the Old Testament story of Hagar and her son Ishmael, banished to the wilderness by Abraham. The child can be seen at the far left under a tree. Hearing Ishmael cry, God sent an angel, seen in the centre of the tapestry, to guide them. The angel points towards a stream at the far left, beyond the fruit-laden tree. The inscription beneath gives the panel’s subject. Part of the Burrell Collection.
