Description
Wool and silk tapestry from a set depicting the Old Testament story of Jonathan Maccabeus. In this one, Jonathan is being given a robe as a symbol of friendship and alliance by Alexander Balas, ruler of the Greek Seleucid kingdom. Jonathan, in a golden gown, stands in the centre of the composition, while around him stand his courtiers, watching his reaction. Part of the Burrell Collection.
