Description
Wool tapestry depicting the circumcision of Christ and the Adoration of the Magi. Johannes Le Greffier, identified in the inscription at the bottom of the tapestry as ‘doctor of the directors, a scholar and official of [the town of] Nomain’, kneels in the lower left corner of the tapestry, watching. Towards the top of the tapestry, between the two scenes, is his coat of arms, showing a chevron between three birds’ claws (griffes in French) in a word-play on his name. Part of the Burrell Collection.
