Description
Wool and silk tapestry depicting St Matthew with a hound on a mille-fleurs ground. The saint is dressed in a voluminous blue velvet robe, trimmed at the cuffs, collar and hem with brown fur. On his head, he wears a red chaperon hat, with a broad linen hem. He has a greyhound with a broad, decorated collar at his side. The banderol St Matthew holds refers to St Matthew's gospel 2:2 'We have seen His star'. Part of the Burrell Collection.
