Description
Wool and silk tapestry depicting 'Virtue' from the tapestry series called the 'Honours'. At the centre of the tapestry representing Virtue, the male VIRTUS (Virtue), crowned with laurels, beats a chained faun representing VICIV (for Vitium: Vice). Enthroned in clouds at the apex of the composition, and surveying the scene below is SAPIENTIA DIVINA (Divine Wisdom), taking on the regal attributes of the Virgin Mary. Part of the Burrell Collection.
