The high resolution images which we provide are of the highest quality for reproduction and display and we ensure that this standard applies across every high resolution image we send out. If an image is only available at low resolution, it will be available for research and other non-commercial purposes through our Collections Navigator site under a Creative Commons licence. Not all images may be available at all sizes - the sizes available will be shown in the dropdown menu. All of our images come with metadata. We have a huge ongoing photography programme, covering our collections, exhibitions, publications and conservation work, so we are constantly adding to our image library.

Image specification:
The 72dpi images are RGB, 8 bit jpgs at 1000 pixels at the longest edge. High-resolution digital images are 300dpi, RGB, 8 bit, jpgs or tiffs and are large enough to reproduce at least up to A4. Larger file sizes are available. Please contact us.

Our Photo Library Teams
Our in-house teams of photographers photograph our collections and events to the highest possible standards while our Digital Standards Officer ensures that the metadata you get with your image will be world class. The information about the images on this website is drawn from our collections management system with the support of our eagle-eyed documentation team. Our Licensing Manager is always interested to hear from you. We’re BAPLA members and adhere to the BAPLA code of professional ethics, and you can meet us at trade fairs such as CEPIC. Personal callers are welcome, but please do phone ahead to arrange an appointment.

Glasgow Museums
Founded in 1854, our collections are now Recognized Collections of National Significance to Scotland. You can see some of our one million objects in our nine museums around Glasgow, while the rest can be viewed by appointment in the purpose-built Glasgow Museums Resource Centre. The collections include paintings from the major European schools; British paintings of the 17th to 20th centuries; an important collection of Spanish paintings; tapestries, embroideries and costume; Chinese, Egyptian, Greek and Roman works; stained glass; English oak furniture; an important collection of Islamic art; sculpture; transport collections; natural history collections; an arms and armour collection which is one of the most significant in the world; a rich social history collection; collections relating to world religions (including Salvador Dali’s Christ of St John of the Cross); and works in the Glasgow Style, including works by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh.

Mitchell Library
One of the great civic libraries of Europe, the Mitchell first opened its doors to the public in 1877. We have a rich and varied collection of resources, some of which are of international importance, though the major part of the collections relate to Glasgow and Scotland. As well as the world's largest collection of Robert Burns' works, we have a comprehensive collection of Scottish literature, including manuscripts and private press items (such as works from William Morris’s Kelmscott Press); newspapers; music scores; a collection of rare ornithological books including Audubon's Birds of America and Gould's Birds of Europe, the archives of the North British Locomotive Company, Thomas Lipton, and William ‘Crimea’ Simpson; millions of photographs dating from the 19th century to the present day; over 45,000 maps; plans of the city's buildings; works by the Italian artist Piranesi; and original Charles Rennie Mackintosh architectural drawings.
