What is a lightbox, and what is it for?
A lightbox is for collecting images you may be interested in buying but may still be undecided about. Once you have decided on the image or images you want to buy, you can transfer them from the lightbox to the shopping basket, and then proceed to the checkout.

I can’t find an image of something I know you have in your collections. Where will I find it?
Not all our objects are online yet – there are over 1 million in Museums’ collections alone, but we will be continually adding to the number of images on this website. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please do contact us.

Can you frame my print for me?
This is not a service we currently offer. As all our prints are bespoke – that is, made to your own individual order – we concentrate on providing top quality prints and leave framing to other professionals.

Can I take my own photographs?
You are welcome to take photographs for your personal use. Signs are displayed in all our venues clearly stating that only photography for personal use is permitted. By entering our museum buildings you are considered to have agreed to this as a condition of entry. To photograph the collections held at Glasgow Museums Resource Centre, you will first have to fill in a form, available from the Enquiry Desk there.

Due to the sensitive nature of many of our exhibits, and the possible damaging effects of flash photography, permission to use flash must be sought beforehand.

Please note that we may not always be able to permit photography within temporary exhibitions, due to the lenders' wishes.

How can I find out about filming a documentary or drama production in your venues?
Glasgow offers fantastic opportunities for film locations. Please contact the Glasgow Film Office for general enquiries about filming in the city (www.glasgowfilm.com). For information about filming in Glasgow Life’s venues, email VenueHire@glasgowlife.org.uk. If you wish to film objects in the museums or libraries collections, contact us.

Can I visit the Photo Library?
We welcome visitors but, as we are a busy commercial photo library, please contact us to arrange an appointment.

Do you provide picture research for commercial customers?
Yes. Our basic fee is £38.50 per half day, but the final cost will depend on the amount of work involved. We work closely with our curators and librarians, giving you the best combination of skills and knowledge relating to our collections.

What methods of payment do you accept?
You can pay by credit card online, or by telephoning the Photo Library, phone +44 (0) 141 276 9452. You can make payments by bank transfer (BACS) – please contact us for details. We can also invoice you. Personal callers to Glasgow Libraries may pay cash at library counters.

What if a work is still in copyright?
We can contact the copyright holder on your behalf, or provide you with details if the information is not confidential. Please note that the copyright holder may require an additional fee.
